Bergen’s Promise & Bergen New Bridge Medical Center hosted Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training (ASIST) for Faith Leaders

Tuesday, May 5, 2026

Bergen’s Promise, in partnership with Bergen New Bridge Medical Center, recently hosted a two-day Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training (ASIST) for faith leaders across Bergen County. The training brought together clergy and spiritual leaders to strengthen their ability to recognize and respond to individuals experiencing thoughts of suicide.

This training is especially significant given the vital role faith leaders play within the Wraparound model of care, often serving as trusted supports for individuals and families during times of crisis. By equipping faith leaders with evidence-based intervention skills, the training helps bridge clinical care and community-based support systems.

Grounded in the understanding that healing is holistic—encompassing physical, mental, emotional, social, and spiritual well-being—this initiative reinforces the importance of integrating faith-based support into broader mental health efforts. Through this collaboration, participants gained practical tools to support their communities, reduce stigma, and contribute to safer, more connected systems of care
