Bergen’s Promise Joins Colleagues on Capitol Hill for Disability Policy Seminar/Hill Day

Friday, March 27, 2026

Bergen’s Promise was proud to join a strong delegation from New Jersey and Bergen County at this year’s Disability Policy Seminar and Hill Day. This event drew more than 900 advocates from across the country. Representing Bergen’s Promise, Shelisa Foster and Kathy Werheim stood alongside colleagues from The Arc of Bergen and Passaic Counties to champion the needs of youth and adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD).

Throughout the day, our team met with members of Congress to elevate the importance of sustained federal investment in critical programs. Our team had the opportunity to meet with U.S. Senator Andy Kim and his Legislative Correspondent, Catherine Melman-Kenny, to discuss the ongoing need for funding for Medicaid, Developmental Disability programs, and the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA).

These essential programs ensure that children and adults with disabilities have access to quality, affordable, and accessible care, supports, and services. The strong turnout and unified voice at this year’s event underscore the continued commitment of advocates to protect and strengthen these vital resources.
