Presenting on the Significance of Suicide Prevention and Intervention

Friday, October 1, 2021

On September 21st and 22nd, Bergen’s Promise hosted a webinar for our families and community members entitled “You are not alone: Suicide prevention and intervention for families”.

The webinar, offered in both English and Spanish, was presented by Jose M. Rodriguez, MA, LPC, LCADC, ACS, Clinical Consultant at Bergen's Promise and Maria Decandia-Godefoy, Care Manager at Bergen’s Promise. The presentation addressed common myths about suicide and provided invaluable knowledge to help families recognize the risks and warning signs of suicide, identify protective factors, and learn how to effectively intervene.

Families were referred to valuable resources to help them more confidently address suicide risk with their loved ones. You can learn more about resources available in Bergen County and nationwide on Bergen ResourceNet: https://www.bergenresourcenet.org/health-services/crisis-safety/suicide/. If you or someone you know is in need of help, please contact the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline. 1-800-273-TALK (8255)

In addition, this training was presented to our entire Bergen’s Promise staff on 10/1. This is such useful information as understanding this topic helps the families we serve succeed and grow.
